Idle Speed 1Temporarily install knob on low-speed needle (if equipped)Start engine and run in FORWARD gear at one-half throttleAllow engine to reach normal operating temperature before making low-speed mixture adjustmentsThe boat's movement must be unrestrained The boat must not be tied to dock or trailer2Run engine at slow speed (700-800 RPM) and adjust the lowspeed needle until the highest consistent RPM is attainedAllow 15 seconds after each adjustment for engine to respond 3After final adjustment is completed, turn low-speed needle counterclockwise one-eighth turn to prevent engine from being too lean at slow speeds4Remove knob (if equipped)Reposition it with pointer down on low-speed needleBe careful not to disturb position of low-speed needle5Reduce engine speed and turn idle speed adjustment to allow engine to run at minimum of 650 RPM in FORWARD gear Run engine in gear at or near full throttle for one minute Quickly reduce speed to SLOW (700-800 RPM) and shift into NEUTRALEngine should continue to run smoothly7If engine stalls or pops, the mixture is probably too lean Turn the needle counterclockwise one-sixteenth turnAllow 15 seconds after each adjustment for engine to respondObserve engine running qualityIf satisfactory, repeat step to verify that mixture adjustment is correct8If engine does not respond to adjustments, check engine for other problemsMake sure gasoline is of good quality and mixed with the proper amount of oil 3 2C
