f'31l 18Rotate the powerhead so that the cylinder head faces upRemove the cylinder head and gently push up on the connecting rods to remove No1 and No2 piston assembliesProtect the condition of the piston by packing paper towels between the connecting rod and piston Do not allow the connecting rod to contact the inside of the piston skirt during handling 1321 19Remove the upper crankshaft seal and bearing Discard the seal and clean and inspect the bearing

20The lower crankshaft bearing should not be removed unless it needs to be replacedTo remove, use bearing separator and press1331 21Remove the rings from the pistons using piston ring expandersDO NOT try to save the ringsInstall complete set of new rings on every powerhead service job1341 22If necessary to remove the piston from the connecting rod, remove both wrist pin retaining rings using OMC Wrist Pin Retaining Ring Remover PIN 325937Discard the retaining rings13511361 23 The fit between the wrist pin to bosses of the piston is loose on both sidesPush the wrist pin through to free the piston from the connecting rodIf necessary, use OMC Piston Cradle PI 326573 and OMC Wrist Pin Pressing Pin PI 326356With the piston skirt flush with the cradle, press out the wrist pin using an arbor pressBe careful not to lose any of the 28 needle bearings or the two wrist pin washersIf any of the bearings are worn or lostreplace all the bearings on reassembly
