1521 8Begin the propeller shaft reassembly by installing the clutch dog on the propeller shaft with end marked "Prop End" toward the rear, and the shifter hole and propeller shaft slot aligned 53 9
Place the forward gear into the bearing housing
1541 10Insert the shifter shaft into the propeller shaft being sure to align holes in shifter shaft, propeller shaft, and clutch dog When holes are aligned, insert the clutch dog pin into the clutch dog and shifter shaftSecure pin with new retainer springInspect the spring for overlapping or loose coils 11Push the shifter detent down into the REVERSE position1551 12Locate the propeller shaft assembly and orient the forward bearing housing with the shifter detent toward the topInsert the assembly into the gearcase making sure that the locating pin on the bearing housing lines up with the locating pocket in the gearcase1561 13Lubricate new shift rod cover O-ring with OMC Triple Guard greaseInstall the O-ring into the shift rod coverGrease the threaded end of the shift rod and insert it through the cover bushingTurn the shift rod while pushing it through the bushing to avoid damaging the O-ring1571 14Apply OMC Gasket Sealing Compound to both sides of new shift rod cover gasket Position the gasket on the gearcaseThread the shift rod into the shifter detent about four turns
