Hard Starting It is possible for the ignition system to produce good spark and yet the engine will not startIf the engine "pops" or "backfires" during starting attempts, the ignition timing could be offCheck the following:
1Sensor Wire PositioningOn the four-wire connector between the timer base and power pack, be sure the correct color wires are in the correct positions on both halves of the connectorSee the Wiring Diagram in back of manual2Ignition Coil Wire PositioningCheck to be sure the top ignition coil is connected to the orangeblue wire from the power packThe middle ignition coil must be connected to the orange power pack wireThe bottom ignition coil must be connected to the orangegreen wire from the power pack3Flywheel and Flywheel Key ConditionIf the flywheel is out of position due to damaged crankshaft or flywheel tapers, or sheared flywheel key, ignition timing will be affectedRefer to Section 1, Synchronization and linkage AdjustmentsBefore checking the engine for maximum spark advance, refer to Section 1, Synchronization and linkage Adjustments Perform the adjustments in the order listed
