Sensor Coil Ground TestWith the four -wire connector connected to the adapter, turn all adapter switches OFFSet the voltmeter switches to "S" and "5 If using Merc-O -Tronic Model 781, set the switches to "POS" and "5
AClip the meter black lead to clean engine groundPlace the meter red lead in jack "A" Crank the engine and observe the meterBMove the red lead to jack "B Crank the engine and observe the meterCMove the red lead to jack "C Crank the engine and observe the meterDMove the red lead to jack "D Crank the engine and observe the meter
The meter should not indicate reading when the meter red lead is in any of the jacks Any needle movement on the meter means the sensor coils are groundedLocate the ground and repair, or replace the timer base assemblyEIf the meter shows no needle movement, place the meter black lead in jack "0 Turn all adapter switches OFFWhile cranking the engine, alternately place the meter red lead into jacks "A," "B,and "C If the meter indicates 0.3 volt or higher, the sensor coils are OKProceed to Step Power Pack Running Tests Using C.D Voltmeter If no or low meter reading, replace the timer baseFRemove the four-wire connector from the adapterApply isopropyl alcohol to the plug and receptacle Align flat areas and carefully install the plug into the receptacleSecure the connector with the wire retainer
