Maximum Spark Advance AdjustmentCharacteristics of this ignition system cause an automatic increase in spark advance over the basic setting as engine speed increases from approximately 3500 to 5000 RPM For this reason the most accurate setting is made when the engine is run over 5000 RPM E:J

Run the engine with the proper test wheelDo not run the engine with propeller or flushing adapter for the adjustment1Connect timing light to the No1 cylinder2Start and run the engine to minimum of 5000 RPM in FORWARD gear3The engine timing pointer must align with correct degree mark on the flywheel grid
Maximum Spark Advance All Models 4Stop the engineTo adjus.t, loosen the adjustment screw nutTurn the adjustment screw In or out as necessary to correct the timingOne turn clockwise retards timing about and one turn counterclockwise advances timing about 15Tighten the nut and repeat steps thru 4Idle Speed Adjustment 1The boat and engine must be in the water under normal operating conditions with the correct propeller installedThe boat's movement must be unrestrainedThe boat must not be tied to dock or trailer2Start the engine and allow it to reach normal operating temperature3Check idle RPM in FORWARD gear with an accurate tachometer
