Break-In Procedure Commercial models not equipped withUse 50: fueloil mixture in the fuel tankUse only Evinrude or Johnson Outboard Lubricant, or other NMMA certified TC-W lubricants at ratio not leaner than 50: 1
VRoi modelsUse 100: fueloil mixture in addition to the systemUse only Evinrude or Johnson Outboard Lubricant, or other NMMA certified TC-W lubricants at ratio not leaner than 100: 1Mark oil level on VRO reservoir to verify oil consumption before changing to clear fuelFirst hourFor the first 5-10 minutes, operate engine at fast idleFrequently check operation of water pumpThere should be steady stream of water from the overboard indicator at the rear starboard corner of the lower engine coverFor remainder of first hour, engine should be operated at boat planing speedDo not operate engine over 3000 RPM, or approximately one-half throttleChange engine speed every 15 minutesINotel With easy-planing boats, bring the boat into planing position with full power and then immediately reduce the throttle setting to approximately 3000 RPM (one-half throttle)BE SURE boat maintains planing attitude at this throttle settingSecond hour: Bring boat into planing attitude and reduce power to 4000 RPM, or approximately three-quarters throttle, while maintaining planing attitudeAt intervals during the second hour, apply full power for periods of one to two minutes, returning to three-quarters throttle for cooling periodChange engine speed every 15 minutesAvoid continuous full-throttle operation for Hours10: extended periods during the next eight hoursChange engine speed every 15 minutesINotel After 10 hours of break-in, check oil level in the VROoil tank to verify that oil is being consumed to ensure proper lubrication of engineAdd oil to refill VRO oil tank before switching from 100:1 fueloil mixture to clear fuelINotel Retorque cylinder head screws after engine break-in periodRetorque after engine has been run and cylinder head has cooled to the touch
