Charge Coil Cranking Tests Using C.DVoltmeter

Charge Coil Ground TestDisconnect the five-wire connectorSet the voltmeter switches to" -" and "500

AInsert the meter red lead or jumper wire into cavity "A Attach the meter black lead to clean engine groundCrank the engine and observe the meterBMove the red lead or jumper wire to cavity "D Crank the engine and observe the meter Any reading on either test means the charge coil or its leads are grounded Locate ground and repair, or replace the charge coil
ri:l Charge Coil Output TestRemove the meter black lead from engine ground and insert probe into cavity "A" of the connector Insert the red lead or jumper wire into cavity "D Crank the engine and observe the meter If the meter reads 230 volts or higher, go to Step 4Sensor Coil Cranking Tests Using C.DVoltmeter If the meter reads below 230 volts, check condition of the component wiring and connectorsVerify pin location in the connector If problem with the wiring or connectors is found, correct the problem and retest the charge coil output If the condition of the wiring and connector is acceptable, refer to Charge Coil Ohmmeter Test.U
