Manual Starter Servicingthru 8 Replacement of Starter Rope If starter rope has broken and allowed starter spring to unwind, it will first be necessary to wind spring as described in Installation Instructions'" 1To avoid accidental starting of engine while servicing, twist and remove all spark plug leads
Pull starter rope out until it is fully extendedRemove pinion sleeveLock starter in this position by inserting small punch or stiff wire through roll pin 3Remove handle cap and untie knot in end of ropeRemove handle and bumper4Pull rope from starter spool5Cut new rope to length of 59 in(151 cm) and fuse ends for length of in (12 mm)Ends must be stiff to hold in spool6 Tie knot in rope leaving about in(12 mm) of rope end Feed end of rope through slot in spool until knot is snug against spoolFeed rope counterclockwise around spool once and between spool and guide
