Gearcase Servicing2.5, 4, Ultra 4, Excel Models Removal
1Remove the lower engine coverTo avoid accidental starting of engine while servicing, twist and remove spark plug leads
2Remove the propeller and attaching hardware[]] Remove the two screws attaching the gearcase to the exhaust housingWithdraw the gearcase carefully from the exhaust housing and mount the gearcase in suitable fixture4 Remove and discard the driveshaft O-ringDisassembly

gearcase, refer to Cleaning and Inspection at the beginning of this section
1Drain the gearcase by removing the oil level filldrain plugsRemove the oil level plug first
2Remove the three water pump attaching screws but do not attempt to remove the water pump yetIJ:l 3Separate the water pump housing from the water pump LJ plateThe water pump housing must be carefully pried away from the plate, using sharp tool similar to pocket knifeOnce the housing is free of the plate, sl ide it up and off the driveshaft and remove the impeller drive pin
