1281 18Thoroughly clean and degrease the crankcase mating flange of the cylinder block with GMC Cleaning Solvent and let air dry1291 19Apply Locquic Primer to the mating flange of the crankcase and let air dry1301 20Apply Gel Seal lito the cylinder block flangeThe application must cover the flange evenly and consistently without being excessiveThe application must not come within in(6,4 mm) of the labyrinth seals or bearings 1Note Gel Seal I! has shelf life of at least one year when stored at room temperatureTest the Gel Seal I! or replace it if the age of the tube can not be determined Using old Gel Seal I! could cause crankcase air leaks 21Lower the crankcase into place22 Install the six main bearing screws finger tight23 When the crankcase is seated, install and firmly seat the crankcase taper pinTighten the six main bearing screws in stages to final torque of 60-84 inIbs(7-9 Nm)Begin with center screws and work outward in spiral patternTighten the four flange screws to torque of 60-84 inIbs(7-9 Nm)
