21 Align the embossed word "FRONT" toward the shift rod and push the driveshaft bearing housing in positionApply OMC Gasket Sealing Compound to the threads of the housing retaining screwsInstall the screws and tighten the screws little at time to press the bearing housing down evenlyTighten the screws to torque of 96-120 inIbs(11-14 Nm)22Place the small thrust washet in recess of the reverse gearOil and install first the thrust bearing and then the larger thrust washer on the hub of the reverse gearSlide the reverse gear onto the propeller shaft until it engages the pinion23Slide the bearing housing retainer plate into position over the propeller shaft

24Using OMC Retaining Ring Pliers, PIN 331045, install the two retaining ringsRetaining rings are under extreme pressure during installation Wear safety glasses and proceed with care to avoid unsnapping the ring from the pliersLook inside the gearcase and make sure that the retaining rings are seated in the grooves in the gearcase
