Down Circuit The down circuit of the power tilt and trim unit functions as follows: When pushing the tilt and trim switch to the down position, current flows from the switch to the right relay (Point 86), through the relay windings to Point 85, and returns to the negative side of the battery
The energized solenoid pulls the relay points together so contact is made at Points 30 and 87Current can flow from the positive side of the battery to Point 87 through the relay (Point 30)Thenthe current flows from Point 30 through the green wire to the motor From the motor current returns through the green wire to the right relay (Point 30) Now the current can flow from Point 30 through the relay to Point 87A and returns to the negative side of the batteryOhmmeter Test on Relay Refer to the two wiring schematics at end of section Remove relays from connector and junction boxWith an ohmmeter set to low ohms scale or (R 1), connect one lead of ohmmeter to Point 85 and the other lead to Point 86 on the relayMeter should indicate approximately 60 to 90 ohmsConnect one meter lead to Point 30 and other meter lead to Point 87A on relayMeter should indicate approximately zero ohmsMove the lead of meter from Point 87A to 87Meter should indicate open circuit (no reading)Apply 12 volts, with the battery positive cable to point 86 and battery negative cable to point 85With the ohmmeter on RX scale, connect one lead to point 30 and the other lead to point 87 ohmmeter should now indicate continuityIf readings other than above, replace relay and proceed on tests
