Installing Pinion Bearing155 After the gearcase has been thoroughly cleaned and inspected, install new pinion bearing in the gearcase as follows:
1Assemble the following components of OMC Special Tool PIN 391257 as shown

14-20 12" Hex Head Screw 1" 0.0Flat Washer Spacer PN 326584 Plate and Bearing PIN 391260 Rod PIN 326582

2Secure OMC Special Tool PIN 328828 (Pinion Bearing Installer) to the rod using 14-20 1-14" hex head screw from kit PIN 3912573Apply OMC Needle Bearing Grease to the 19 needle bearings and insert them in the bearing case4Place the bearing on the installer tool with the lettered side of the bearing facing the top of the gearcaseUse OMC Needle Bearing Grease to hold the bearing onto the toolIncorrect installation of the pinion bearing in the gearcase drastically reduces the life of the bearingThe bearing is tapered so that when installed correctly its shape compensates for stresses in the gearcase and allows full needle bearing contactWhenever gearcase is disassembled, the pinion bearing should be checked to ensure that it has been installed ith the lettering facing up5I nsert the tool with the bearing into the gearcasePress the bearing in the gearcase until the washer on the tool contacts the spacer6Remove the toolApply OMC Gasket Sealing Compound to new pinion bearing retaining screw O-ring Position the O-ring on the screwI nstall the screw into the gearcaseTighten the screw to torque of 5,5-9,0 Nm (48-80 inIbs
