9If old bearing was removed, install new one by supporting housing on open jaws of bearing separator placed in pressLightly oil case of bearing to ease assemblyPlace the needle bearings in the case when installing the bearingUse tool that spans the bearing case and press in until it's flush with the housingApply OMC Needle Bearing Grease to the needle bearings when installing10To begin the reassembly of the shift mechanism, apply OMC Needle Bearing Grease on the detent ball and springInsert the ball and spring into the bearing housing11With the shifter detent in position shown, depress the ball and spring with punch while pressing the shifter detent into the housing12Position the shift lever in the housing and then rotate the detent lever to engage the shift lever and install the pin through the housing and shift leverNext, push the detent lever down all the way13Apply OMC Needle Bearing Grease to the shifter shaft, then install the cradle and shaft assembly on the shift lever14Install the thrust bearing on shoulder of the forward gearPlace the thrust washer on shoulder of the bearing housingPlace the forward gear into the bearing housingMake sure that the thrust bearing is between the thrust washer and forward gear COA3078
