Ignition Coil TestsAll Models A wide variety of ignition testers are available from various manufacturersI addition, some automotive testers having the proper specifications can be usedDetailed instructions for the use of any tester are provided with the unit; therefore, only general information is given in this section Refer to the manual of the ignition tester you are using for coil specificationsSpecifications ill vary between testersIgnition coil must be removed from powerhead for power and leakage testingTo avoid possible shock hazards and to prevent leakage, perform all tests to the coil on wooden or insulated bench top
Power Pack ReplacementAll Models
Removal 1Remove the wire retainer from the power pack connector plugsSeparate the connector plugsRemember the routing of the power pack leads and the location of clamps for proper lead positioning during installation2Unscrew the power pack mount screws and ground wire screw to remove the power packInstallation Unless otherwise specified, when installing lockwashers on electrical connectors, place the washer on the engine side of the connector to provide good ground 1Install the power pack ground wire and position the wire so there will be no pull (stretch) when the power pack is installedExcessive pull on the ground wire could result in ignition failure2Mount the power pack and tighten the screws to 5-7 Nm (48-60 inIbs
