Fuel Tank Testing After Repair

Omitting the tank pressure test described below may result in returning fuel system to service which could leak liquid or vaporized fuelIgnition of this leakage could result in fire or explosion
Whenever fuel tank or line have been serviced or have had parts disassembled, the unit must be tested to insure that the repaired or reassembled portion will not leak or emit fumesSimply adding fuel to the tank and checking for leakage is not an adequate test, as leakage or fumes may occur only when the tank's contents have been pressurizedAs examples, pressurization can occur when the tank is left in sunlight, or when the fuel is agitated, as might occur during transportTools needed are Stevens Gearcase Pressure Tester Model S-34 and OMC Special Tool PIN 389945 (Fuel Tank Pressure Test Adapter) compressed air supply is also neededBefore Testing

Do not smoke during test or perform test in area where there are sparks or open flamesOnce air pressure is applied to tank, gasoline traces may be expelled as vapor or mistGasoline in these forms is extremely flammable and highly explosive1Remove fuel cap and disengage from tankRemove anchor from fuel cap2Empty fuel tank completelyUse common baster to remove the last of the fuelINotellf any fuel remains in the tank during testing, it could conceal the presence of leakageTest Procedure
