eTighten connecting rod screws to torque as specified in Section 2Check movement at connecting rods on crank pinRods should float freely after torquingBend lock plate tabs up to prevent screws from turningE]NOTE DO NOT adjust position of screw if tab does not fit against flat on screwLock plate tab must be made to conform to screwAlways use new lock plates 920 9

CRANKCASE AND CYLINDER Figure 5-19Connecting Rod Cap Alignment PISTON RINGS Install the piston rings on each pistonSpread each ring with ring expander just enough to slip it over the head of the piston and down into placeBe sure the rings fit freely in the piston ring groovesThe ring grooves are pinned to secure the position of the rings, primarily to prevent ends of the rings from catching on the edges of the ports in the cylinders, but also to assure staggering of the ring gapsaApply thin line of OMC Adhesive "M" to crankcase faceDO NOT over-cement; excess will squeeze over to foul oil channels, etcThere should be thin line of cement between the screw holes in inside edge of machined surfacebPosition crankcase and install crankcase taper pins, driving in carefully with hammerInstall attaching screws and tighten to torque specified in Section 2
