FLYWHEEL REMOVAL SAFETY WARNING To prevent possible personal injuryor accidental starting of motor, separate the four wire cable connector between the armature plate and power packSee Figure 4-23aRemove the flywheel nut using strap wrench or other suitable tool to hold the flywheelSee Figure 4- 28bTo remove the flywheel install OMC Universal Puller (Special Tool No378103) to the flywheel and tighten the center boltSee Figure 4- 29

The flywheel may not "pop" from the crankshaft taper when tightening the puller boltTo "pop" the flywheel, use heavy plastic mallet and tap the top outside diameter of the flywheel or pullerDo not hit the center bolt to remove the flywheel
FLYWHEEL INSTALLATION
aClean the crankshaft and flywheel tapers with solvent and blow dry with compressed airThese surfaces must be clean and dry to allow proper locking of the tapersbInstall the flywheel and tighten the nut to the torque specified in Section 2NOTE Carefully align the connector halves during assembly to insure proper terminal contactcReconnect the four wire cable connector between the armature plate and power pack and secure it with the retainer
