REMOVAL OF FUEL PUMP AND FILTER aDiscormect hoses from pump and filter assemblybTo remove fuel pump, remove two screws attaching pump and filter assembly to power head, and remove pump and filter assemblySee Figure 3-21
CLEANING, INSPECTION, AND REPAIR
aThe fuel pump operating components are not serviced separatelyIf malfunction occurs, replace the complete pumpbInspect the filter for accumulation of sediment by removing the filter cap screw and the filter capSee Figure 3-21cClean all parts of the filter assembly and fuel cormectors in solvent and blow dryDO NOT dry parts with cloth, as lint may stick to the parts and clog the passages or prevent the fuel pump valves from seatingDissolve any gummy deposits with OMC Accessory Engine Cleaner (certain solvents will not dissolve these deposits)Figure 3-22Fuel Recirculating System

REASSEMBLY OF FUEL PUMP AND FILTER
aReassemble the fuel filter to the pump in the reverse order of disassembly, being sure lip of screen faces pumpbAttach fuel pump to motor using new gasketTighten filter and pump screws securely(Check for leaks by connecting fuel tank line to motor and squeezing primer bulb until definite pressure is felt in the bulb FUEL RECIRCULATING SYSTEM aThe fuel recirculating system ordinarily requires little or noattention; however, when the motor is being serviced, remove and clean the cover plate, check valves and screen assemblySee Figure 3-22Check hoses from cover plate to by-pass coversbIf gum or varnish is found in the crankcase during servicing, clean the cover screens and check valves in OMC Accessory Engine Cleaner, as it is likely that gum and varnish have also been deposited thereNOTE
