CHARGING CIRCUIT CHECKS (15 AMP) (CONT) Where To Look Cause What To Do UNDERCHARGED BATTERY WIRING 1Corroded or loose connections 2Short or ground in leads to stator 3Ground in other parts of circuit RECTIFIER 1Defective rectifier diodes Clean and tighten connectionsCheck leads for defective lead insulation or connectorsCheck for worn through insulationDisconnect rectifier leads High reading on one check and low reading on otherdiode OKand check HI ohms Zero reading on both checks scalediode shortedHigh reading on both checks diode openDisconnect voltage regulator at terminal blOCkRun motor at 4300-4600 rpm and note ammeter readingNOTE: Disconnect all accessoriesConnect ohmmeter leads to either yellow or yellowgray lead and groundConnect ohmmeter leads to yellow and yellow gray leadsDisconnect voltage regulator at terminal blockRun motor at 4300-4600 rpm and note ammeter readingNOTE: Disconnect all accessoriesOVERCHARGED BATTERY 1Defective regulator Motor and regulator must Voltmeter reading 14.4 to 15.0 be warm (run at least voltsregulator OK20 minutes) and battery fully chargedRun Voltmeter reading in excess of motor at 4300-4600 15.0 volts replace regulatorrpm and measure battery voltageVisually inspect for corroded connectionsIf ammeter shows charge, replace
