9-13 aRemove brass sending unit stud, spring and pickup ballRemove insulatorbHold cylinder in vise, using flats for pivot pin at bottom of cylinderCUsing spanner wrench, engage holes in end cap Hold wrench down tight against end cap and strike wrench end with mallet to loosen end capUnscrew end capdSlowly pull piston rod carrier assembly from cylinderBe sure to catch the two ground springs which provide the ground circuit for sending unitSee Figure 9- 11These springs are carried in the groove of the piston bearingeGrasp piston bearing and pull from cylinder In circular motion to work "0" rings of piston past cylinde threadsDiscard "0" ring assembly on pistonCRemove piston bearing from car rier assembly using spanner wrench
gPlace piston rod loop in vise and remove piston rod stophSlide end cap from piston rod Discard ena cap wiper and "0" rings Sender unit on carrier is soldered to piston Avoid damaging coiled wire on bobbin Or breaking soldered connection
