Before testing power rim and tilt unit, check the following:

aBe sure that battery is fully chargedThe batte ry must be charged to specific ravity of 1.260 to 1.280bThe manual lease screw must be tightened firmly in the clockwise directionThis is the normal operating positionTo release or let outboard down from tilted position, turn screw three or four revolutions counterclockwiseManual release allows motor to be manually tilted lowered

SAFETY WARNING

Keep clear of motor when backing out manual release screwBe ure to turn manual release crew clockwise Wltil it stops after the motor is in the vertic al positionThe hydraulic fluid level in the system must be maintained at aU timesTo check, tilt engine up, emove the filler plug and cbeck the fluid levelSee Figure 9-2If necessary, add enough OMC Sea-Lube Gearcase Lube (or GM to bring the fluid level even with the bottom of fill hole when Wlit is at full tiltThe following procedure should be used if substantial amount of oil has been lost due to unit epair or othe easons (The total ystem equirement is about 34 pint
