7-8 CHECKING RECTIFIER DIODES T check the diodes, place test meter in theHI" ohms positionThis is basically continuity test
Under no circumstances use any test meter or instrument with more
than 12-volt sour ce See Figure 7-18 RECTIFIER ON ENGINE 1Disconnect rectifie leads from terminal blockConnect one ohmmeter (HI ohms scale) lead to ei ther yellow yellowgray rectifier lead, and othe meter lead to oundNote mete eading

2Reve rse est leadsor press polarity button if mete is so eqUipped, and again note met er eadingAn infinite (ve ry high) eading in both checks indicates the diode is openA zero eading in both checks indicates the diode is shortedA norma diode will show eading in one direction and no reading in the othe direc tion3Repeat this procedure with other ectifier yeUow lead

4Repeat test, connecting meter between rectifier yellow lead and recUfier red leadBe tween yellow gray stripe rectifier lead and rectifier red lead STATOR To heck stator windings, disconnect the yellow ead (terminalS) and yellowgray (terminal 6) lead at the terminal block Connect the red meter lead to ei ther yellow lead and meter black lead to ground to check for shortsAn infinite reading on HI ohms scale indicates the windings are goodCOMect the ohmmeter (LO ohms scale) between the yellow and yellow gray leadsA reading of 1.0 ohms:t .2 indicates the Windings are goodand an infinite reading indicates the windings are openSee figure 7-19
