REMOVAL OF STARTER
Due to the cons truction oC the starter motor, maintenance operations are generally limited to periodic checking for looseness of mounting Unless It Is cer tain that the starler motor requires attention, do not re move it for overhaulA thorough check should be made of the battery, cables, sta rting solenoid, and switch as outlined in the Trouble Check Chart in Section 2Check the Prestolite starter motor by us ing the no load testWith 11 volts applied to the starter motor, maximum current should be 37 amperes and minimum speed should be 9000 rpmCheck Bosch sta rter no load testWith 12.0 to 12.4 volts applied, maximum current draw should be 32.0 amps, speed 5750 to 8000 rpm See Figure 7- 5Remove starter motor for test as follows: aDisconnect ead from starter motorbRemove ir ilencer as described in Section 3cRemove three tarter mounting screwsSee Figu 7-6
