If adjustment is needed, loosen the shift handle clamp and adjustment screwsSee Figure 6-24Adjust shift handle as required, tighten screws, and recheck adjustmentTILTING FRICTION The tilting friction must be enough to maintain motor in tilted position for beaching, rowing in shallow waters, etc but not enough to prevent the motor from tilting up in the event the lower unit strikes submerged objectTo adjust friction, tilt motor up as far as it will goThen tighten the friction nut on the stern bracket just enough so that the motor will remain in tilted position, but can be returned to an upright position with very little pressureSee Figure 6-25STEERING FRICTION steering friction permits the motor to maintain set course without holding the steering handleIt can be adjusted by tightening the screw, located on the swivel bracket, to the desired tensionSee Figure 6-26
