PISTONS, WRIST PINS, AND CONNECTING RODS aThe relative positions of pistons and connecting rods must be considered when assembling pistons to rodPistons must be installed in cylinders with intake side of deflector toward intake portSee Figure 5-22Oil hole in wrist pin end of connecting rod must be up toward top of motorSee Figure 5-23 bApply coat of oil to wrist pin, making sure surface is cleanPlace drop or two of oil in each pin hole in the pistonNOTE One of the piston bosses is bored for Slip fit on the wrist pin and the other for press fitWhen installing the wrist pin, drive from the side marked "LOOSE", USing fixture to guard against distortion or damage during the operationSee Figure 5-14cInsert wrist pin through hole in loose side of pistonOil wrist pin bearing in connecting rodPlace connnecting rod in position, then proceed to install toe wrist pinThis can be done more easily if the piston is heated slightly, causing it to expanddReplace retaining rings, lettered side out, making certain they come to rest securely in the groove provided for this purposeeCheck piston with micrometer to determin( whether piston has been distorted during assembly INT AKE SIDE OF DOWEL PINS -
