CRANKSHAFT aReplace main journal bearings on crankshaftPlace "0" rings in pOSition on upper and lower bearingsbRemove rod caps from connecting rodsApply coat of OMC Needle Bearing Grease (Part Number 378642) to connecting rod bearing areaPlace one retainer half and roller bearings on each rodSee Figure 5-24cPlace crankshaft in pOSition on cylinder block, aligning main bearings with dowel pins in cylinder blockSee Figure 5-24 not interchangeable with those of other rods, neither may the caps of the same rods be turned end for endTo assist correct assembly, small raised dots are provided on matching sides of rod and capDraw pencil over chamfered corners on both sides of rod to make certain that cap and rod are aligned at this pointIf not aligned, chamfered corners can be felt with the pencil pointSee Figure 5-26Misalignment will affect free normal action of the rollers and may result in damage later onSee Figure 5-27fTighten connecting rod screws to torque specified in Section using torque wrenchRods and bearings should float on crankpins
