The threaded edges of the choke and throttle valve attaching screws are staked during carburetor assembly to prevent loss during operationDisassembly of these valves is possible, but replacement of the carburetor body is recommendedCORE PLUGS aIf necessary, remove core plug to clean out slow speed orifice holesSee Figure 3-1If leakage occurs at core plug area, smart tap with hammer and flat end punch in the center of the core plug will normally correct this conditionSee Figure 3-13

bIf leakage perSists, drill 1 inch hole through the center of the core plug to depth of not more than 1 16 inch below its surface With punch, carefully pry out the core plug See Figure 3-14cInspect and clean casting contact areaIf nicks, scratches, or an out-of-round condition exist, the casting will have to be replacedIf the casting opening is normal, apply bead of Sealer 1000 to the outer edge of new core plugPlace the new core plug in the casting opening, convex side up Flatten to tight fit with flat end punch and hammerCheck for leakage LEAD SHOTS
