CLEANING, INSPECTION AND REPAIR
UPPER HOUSING AND FUEL LEVE INDICATOR

The fue indicator is mounted to the upper housing and fue line assemblyThe entire assembly may be removed by removing the four attaching screwsLift the assembly from the tank carefully to avoid damaging the indicator float the screen at the nd of the fuel line See Figure 3- 24Check for free movement of the indicator on the indicator pinRe move the pin from the indicator support by comp essing the fr ee end and pulling it outInspect the indicator to make sure that the float arm is not bent and that the float not damaged oil-soakedRemove the two screws attaching the indicator support to the upper housingLift the indicator lens out of the upper housing, and clean it with grease solvent or lacquer thinner to emove any for eign matter which may be clouding the lensInspect the lens seal for cracks or hrinkage which may allow leakageThe el ease valves must seat tightly to prevent gasoline or fumes from leaking out, but must open cl ear passage for air to ente the tank and for fue to be dravm out when the fuel hose is cOlUlectedDirt may keep the el ease valves from seating properlyThe release valves are best cleaned by removing the core plugs and disassemblingReplace valve seats ("0" rings) to assure tight sealSee Figure 3- 25The air inlet disc valve must seat tightly to prevent fumes from escaping the tank when the fuel hose is connected, but must allow air to enter th tankThe disc valve spring retainer is st aked to the upper housing and may be removed by filing oU the bur rs if replacement is necessar yRestake with small punchHOSE AND PRIMER BULB ASSEMBLY (WITH YELLOW BAND) CLAMPS
