gCheck electric shift cable leads with an ohmmeter to test for an open circuit or short between leadsA short between leads could cause both forward and reverse gears to engage at the same timeConnect the forward coil green lead to the ohmmeter and ground the other ohmmeter lead to the motorIf the circuit is correct, the ohmmeter will show ohms resistanceNo reading will be obtained if circuit is brokenTest reverse coil circuit the same way by measuring between the blue lead and groundSee Figure 6-50 hAttach exhaust relief bootInstall rear exhaust cover, using new seal ring to prevent passing exhaust gases into the motor cover
iFill gearcase with OMC Type lubricant and grease propeller shaftSee Figure 6-51Install propeller, thrust washer, new drive pin, and propeller nut, securing with new cotter pin
Figure 6-52Shift Lever Adjustment Place shift handle in neutral and check to see that propeller rotates freelyShift lever pin must be centered in neutral detent on shifter lockSee Figure 6-52Move shift handle into forward gear, rotating propeller clockwise to contact shifter dog with forward gear Note point of engagement, and note point where shift lever pin rides in forward detent in shifter lockRepeat action for reverse gearThe shifter lever pin should stop an equal distance from the neutral detent in forward and reverse, but close to neutral in forward gear to allow for positive forward gear engagementIf adjustment is needed, proceed as followsaDisconnect and ground spark plug wiresFigure 6-53See
