A test light may be used in place of meterUnder no circumstances use any test meter or instrument with more than 12-volt sourceDisconnect three wire plugsConnect one meter or test light lead to one of the yellow wire diode terminals and the other meter or test light lead to the diode caseSee Figure 7-16Note the meter reading, then reverse the test leads or press the polarity switch, and again note meter readingAn infinite (very high) reading in both checks indicates the diode is openA zero reading in both checks indicates the diode is shortedA normal diode will show reading in one direction and no reading in the other directionIf test light is used, light should show with connections in one direction onlyRepeat the test procedure for the other diodes by connecting the test leads between the other yellow wire spade terminal and diode caseThen connect leads between one yellow terminal and brown terminalMeter should read in one direction onlyConnect meter leads between other yellow wire terminal and brown leadCHECKING STATOR To check stator windings on motor, disconnect the leads at the power headConnect the meter (on high ohms scale) between either yellow lead and ground to check for shortsAn infinite reading indicates the windings are goodConnect the meter on low ohms scale between the two yellow leadsSee Figures 7-17 and 7-18A reading of 12 ohm .2 indicates the windings are good and an infinite reading indicates the windings are openREPLACEMENT OF ALTERNATOR METER LEADS CONNECTED
