match each assembly with the cylinder it was removed fromThe intake side of the piston deflector nrust be placed toward the intake portThe use of automotive type ring compressing tools should be avoided, as these frequently cause damaged pistons and broken piston rings through imperfect alignment of the ring gap and piston dowel pinThe use of Special Tool #308867 (for standard size rings and pistons only) is recommendedUSing one hand to push the piston into the cylinder, use the free hand to guide the connecting rod into place and to align the rod with respect to the crankshaftSee Figure 5-30 2104

Figure 5-29Checking Piston for Roundness cInsert wrist pin through slip fit side of pistonOil wrist pin bearing in connecting rodPlace connecting rod in position, then proceed to press or drive the pin into the pistonThis can be accomplished more easily if the piston is heated slightly, causing it to expanddReplace retaining rings, making certain they come to rest securely in the groove provided for thi purposeeCheck piston with micrometer to determine whether piston has been distorted during assemblySee Figure 5-29If Slightly out-of-round, tap high side with light mallet (DO NOT use hammer) to restore original roundnessProceed carefully and caliper frequently until the piston is rounded outFigure 5-30Installing Piston in Cylinder
