Figure 3-35Fuel Tank Upper Housing provides the connection to the fuel hose, contains two release valves and disc valve which prevent any escape of gasoline or fumes, minimizing the danger of explosion or fire of the upper housing, and clean it with grease solvent or lacquer thinner to remove any scum or deposits which may be clouding the lensInspect the lens seal for cracks or shrinkage which may allow leakageThe release valves must seat tightly to prevent gaSOline or fumes from leaking out, but must open clean passage for air to enter the tank and for fuel to be drawn out when the fuel hose is connectedDirt may clog the passages and may also prevent the valves from seating properlyThe release valves are best cleaned by removing the core plugs and disassemblingTo remove core plugs, carefully drill small hole through the center of the plug (avoid damaging spring), and pry the plug out with punchReplace valve seats ("0" rings) to assure tight sealSee Figure 3-37

UPPER HOUSING AND FUEL LEVEL INDICATOR The fuel level indicator is mounted to the upper housing and fuel line assemblyThe entire assembly may be removed by removing the four attaching screwsLift the assembly from the tank carefully to avoid damaging the indicator float or the screen at the end of the fuel lineSee Figure 3-36
