BATTERY TESTING The condition of the battery cells checked quick1y and accurate1y the following "light 10ad test" procedureSee Figure 7-3Before starting the test, add water as necessary to bring the e1ectro1yte to the proper 1eve1P1ace 10ad battery ho1ding starter switch for secondsIt makes difference whether starter turns engine or notHowever, if engine starts, turn off ignition to stop engine immediate1yTurn an to 10 ampere 10ad turning ignition switch to "ON" position and turning lights or other accessoriesAfter minute, with to 10 ampere 10ad still read individua1 vo1tages of battery with vo1tmeter having .01 vo1t sca1e divisionNOTE After testing, c10se openings made in sealing compound the probes of the vo1tmeter above the connector straps, pressing the sealing compound with blunt too1If any reads 1.95 volts or more, and the difference between the highest and 10west is 1ess than .05 vo1t, battery is good and sufficiently chargedIf
