bInstall forward gear and thrust washer with machined surface facing gearSee Figure 6-42Assemble spring and two detent balls to propeller shaft using OMC Needle Bearing Grease (Part Number 378642)Align notches in clutch dog with detent balls in propeller shaft, Figure 6-42ANOTE If notches in clutch dog appear off center,
large thrust washer toward reverse gear followed by the retaining plateUsing Truarc pliers, install retaining ring with flat side toward platecIf bearing has been removed, install new bearing in gearcase head, using Special Tools #378737 and #308119See Figure 6-43Press against hardened (lettered) side of bearing onlyBearing should be flush with inner surfaceInstall new seal using Special Tools #378737 and #308104See Figure 6-44Seal should be flush with outer surface of headdInstall gear case head on gearcase, making sure large "0" ring is properly positioned in groove in gearcase headSecure with screws dipped in Perfect Seal #4 non-hardening sealer, using new "0" rings on each screw to assure an oil-tight assembly
