REASSEMBLY OF POWER HEAD TO EXHAUST HOUSING aMake sure gasket surfaces of power head and power head adapter are cleanPlace new gasket in position on the power head adapterbPlace power head on exhaust housing adapter, using care to avoid damage to splined ends of crankshaft and dri veshaftSplines may be more easily engaged by bringing power head into position with the intake manifold facing slightly to port side of motor, and rotating power head until the splines engage DO NOT in any case cause the driveshaft to be rotated counterclockwise, as the water pump impeller vanes ay be damagedcCheck cylinder heads for flatness on surface plate, and resurfaceInstall cylinder he ads, using
with solvent and blow dry with compressed air Inspect both ta pers for burrs or nicksh Assemble flywheel key to crankshaft with outer edge verticalSee Figure 5-39Replace flywheel and tighten flywheel nut to specified torqueAttach manual starter, if used, as described in Section 9Assembly of the power head is now complete except for installation of starter, thermostat assemblyleaf valves and carburetor, heat exchanger tube, fuel pump, distributor or magneto, motor covers and linkagesThese items can be assembled in sequence as outlined in other sections of this manualCheck carburetor adjustments (see Section 3) and linkage and timing adjustments (see Section 4)
