bInstall new packing and packing washers in sequence shown in Figure 3-11cInstall the low-speed needles, turning in carefully with finger pressure (use one of the adjusting knobs for this operation) until it comes lightly against the seat, then back off 34 turnCAUTION should be taken to prevent jamming the needles against the seatsLow-speed needle valves .will be adjusted after the carubretor has been completely assembled and installed on the motordInstall the packing nutsTighten nuts until they can just be turned under finger pressureeAttach the high-speed venturi assemblies to the carburetor body, using venturi locating gage (Special Tool #379242) to assure correct positioning for optimum performanceSee Figure 3-21fCheck operation of the choke to be sure valves correctly shut off air flowExcessive air leakage around the edges of the valves will cause improper functioning of the choke LEAF VALVES aThe importance of keeping the leaves in these valves free from distortion cannot be over-emphasizedReplace any leaf or leaf stop which shows any indication of distortion or damagebThe leaf is so designed that it maintains constant conta.c with the leaf block, and will spring away from the block when predetermined pressure is exerted against itLeaf travel away from the block is limited by the leaf stop When pressure is removed, the inherent spring action of the segments returns and holds them against the blockAlign the leaf segments and leaf stops to the leaf blocks, then examine each leaf carefuliyEach leaf must lie flat against the block with no edges turned up or away from the blockOIL DRAIN VALVES aClean oil drain valve screens, and check leaf stop clearance (.023 to .039)See Figure 3-30bAttach the four leaf block assemblies to the leaf plate base, using new gasketTighten screw to specified torque to avoid distortion of the leaf blocks
