NEW TIMING BE INSTALLATION aRemove rewind starterRelease belt tenSion by loosening three screws attaching magneto bracket to power headCut away old beltbInstall new beltBelt may be installed without removing flywheel by threading carefully between flywhee and starter and between flywheel and carburetorCheck timing and belt tension as described under "Belt Timing"cTighten magneto bracket mounting screws, and replace rewind starterCheck linkage adjustment as described under "Synchronizing Carburetor and Magneto Linkage"BELT TIMING aRotate pulley so that timing mark is in line with center of safety switch plungerSee Figure 4-20 bRotate the flywheel so that the timing marks on the flywheel, starter housing, and by-pass cover plate are in lineSee Figure 4-21NOTE Rotate the flywheel in clockwise direction ONL to prevent damage to the water pump impellerTo relieve power head compression and to prevent aCCidentally starting the motor while rotating the flywheel, remove spark plug, and ground spark plug wirescWith timing mark on flywheel aligned, timing mark on magneto pulley and safety switch plunger should be in lineSee Figure 4-20If not, loosen magneto bracket mounting screws to release belt tension, and rotate pulley until marks are aligned
