ECM The ECM, brain for the fuel injection control system, ignition timing control system and the idle control system, has high precision 16-bit digital computerIt consists of the CPU (central process unit), memory, and the IO (intputoutput part)The ECU has the following functions as well as control of the above systems1) Self-diagnosis function
When the ECM detects an abnormality with the input system, IAC valve, etc the MIL blinks or stays ON to indicate the problem part by short-circuiting the red service check connector located above the ignition coilThe problem part can be detected by the number of blinksWhen two or more parts are faulty, the MIL indicates the parts one after another by the number of blinksThe problem data is stored in the EEP-ROM in the ECM, and it is not erased by disconnecting the batteryRefer to the ECM reset procedure (P5-61 for erasing the problem data2) Fail-safe function
