2Disconnect stator leads at regulator rectifier 3Remove stator by removing six (6) screws retaining stator to bearing cageCleaning and InspectionUse brush or compressed air to clean the stator windingspoles and laminationsClean dirty pole laminations with No 400 or finer sandpaperI nspect for loose connections or burnt insulation at the point where the lead wires connect to poles 2Disconnect four (4) lead wires and one ground wire Figure 123Remove three (3) screws securing regulatorrectifier to power head
Wear safety glasses compressed air
Cleaning and InspectionVisually inspect bakelite body for cracksCheck terminals for looseness and corrosion Remove corrosion with file or emery cloth
