Inspection 1Inspect reeds Reeds must lie flat on reed plate without tension (preload) which restricts airflowor stand open more than .010" (.255 mm) which allows air to be expelled through the carburetorFigure 6 Disassembly and Replacement Reeds
1Remove screws and lockwashers securing reed stop(spacer with 85 H.P and reed to reed plate 2Lay new reed on reed plate to check for flatness 3Carefully place reed over openings in reed plate minimum of .040" 1.01 mm) overlap is needed
ACheck for tension (preload) by gently pushing each petal out Constant resistance should be felt Excessive tension (preload) will result in "clucksound when the petal is pushed out
