8Remove timing tool from cylinder head 9Turn flywheel to align TDC mark on decal with index mark on timing pointer Turn distributor pulley to match index mark on pulley with outside edge of flywheelFigure 4910Install distributor belt over pulley NOTE
If belt deflects more than 1 4" (6 .25 mm) it will be too loose and premature belt breakage will occurIf belt deflects less than 3(16" (4 .7 mm), it may cause binding of towershaft linkage and or excessive wear on towershaft bearings 12Adjust distributor control rod so that distance between nylon swivels is 3 to 1 2" Figure 51
11Adjust tension of distributor belt as follows :
APlace tip of .008" (.20 mm) feeler gauge blade against middle of belt and push against belt until blade bends and belt does not move anymoreAdjust belt so that it moves in 3 16" to 14" (4 .76.25 mm) Figure 50
