Inspection 1Inspect reedsReeds must lie flat on reed plate without tension (preload) which restricts airflow; or stand open more than .010" (.255 mm) which allows air to be expelled through the carburetorFigure 6 Disassembly and Replacement Reeds1Remove screws and lockwashers securing reed stop, (spacer with 85 H.P and reed to reed plate 2Lay new reed on reed plate to check for flatness 3Carefully place reed over openings in reed plate minimum of .040" (1 .01 mm) overlap is needed Figure 7
ACheck for tension (preload) by gently pushing each petal outConstant resistance should be feltExcessive tension (preload) will result in "cluck" sound when the petal is pushed out
