SUBMERGED MOTOR Motor Running When SubmergedFresh or Salt WaterDo not make any attempt to startDisassemble completely, inspecting each part for damage Internal damage is common when running engines are submerged Motor SubmergedFresh WaterIf motor is recovered within few hours, is not damaged mechanically and is free of abrasive dirt insidetry to start following these instructions1Remove spark plugsTurn flywheel slowly by hand to expel water from crankcase and cylinder 2Dry and install spark plugs 3Dry ignition components and spray with lubricant and water displacer 8969 4Drain fuel lines and carburetor5If fuel tank was submerged, drain all fuel from tankflush with fresh fuel until all water is removed Figure 15Lubricating Propeller Shaft(One Piece Lower Unit)-
6Start engine, keep it running for one (1) hour or until all parts are thoroughly warmed and remaining water has evaporated from internal parts
Motor SubmergedSalt WaterMotors submerged in salt water are put back in service much the same as with fresh water; however, precautionary note is added to stop damaging corrosion
