10Install propeller shaft as follows:
capscrews and install screws BInstall exhaust snout12Adjust shift rod as follows :
APlace th rust washer on propeller shaftBSlide rear bevel gear on shaftCApply grease to splined end of propeller shaft and slide propeller shaft bearing cage on propeller shaft
AShift to neutral
BTurn shift rod in or out until bottom of hole in rod
is 6.16 .040 (156.46 1.01 mm) from top surface of leg extension 13Install lower unit as follows :
DApply oil to a-ring on bearing cage EGuide assembly in Turn propeller shaft slowly
until rear gear engages with bevel pinion gearFPush bearing cage in until a-ring groove in
housing is fully exposed G.lnstall a-ring in grove
AApply anti-seize (special tool T2987-1) to drive shaft splines BAlign shift rod with hole in motor leg and drive shaft splines with splines in crankshaftRotate flywheel or prop shaft to engage splinesPush lower unit against motor leg making sure water line is aligned with seal in water pump body
HPlace retainer in gear housing Align holes in retainer with those in bearing cageIApply sealant (special tool NoT8983) to threads of retainer screws Install screws and tighten 11 Install motor leg extension as follows :
