The information in this subsection is concerned with troubleshooting the ignition system and replacement of the electrical components excessive fuelFirst determine that the cause of the problem is not the fuel systemSee the Troubleshooting Guide for the fuel system on page 24 Test EquipmentTo determine accuratelythe condition of components of the ignition systeman ignition tester should be used Without the use of test equipment, components may be replaced needlesslyA wide variety of ignition testers are available from various manufacturersIn addition, some automotive testers having the proper specifications can be used The use of the Graham, Merc-O-Tronic or Stevens ignition testers is particularly recommended, since these units have provisions for checking al functions of the ignition system The following tests are made with the Mer-O-Tronic analyzer with Capacitor Discharge Adapter Model
