Reeds not passing these inspections or displaying obvious damage, such as cracks or pieces broken from themmust be replacedDisassembleinspect andif necessary, replace the following1Disassemble reed plate assembly as followsARemove screws and lockwashers securing reed stop and reedsBLay new reed on reed plate to check for flatness CCarefully locate reed over openings in reed plate minimum of .030" (0 .76 mm) overlap is required Figure 30.030 (0.76 mm) MINIMUM OVERLAP
InstallationTo reinstall reed plate assembly, proceed as follows1Apply small bead of sealant (special tool No T8983) around reed plate opening of power head 2Place new gasket on reed side of reed plate 3Applya light coating to reed plate seal4Push reed plate assembly into power head Hold ends of reed plate seal in with thumbs Figure 32 Ends of seal must not extend above face of reed plate more than .06" (1 .580 mm) after assembly Figure 335Place intake manifold with gasket in position on reed plate assemblyInstall four (4) screws an tighten 6Install carburetor
