SECTION IX (Con't DLift rotor with rope from cover being careful that rewind spring is not pulled along with rotorIf this happens, rewind spring will uncoilEUnwind rope from groove in rotor and pull starter rope out of rotor as shown in figure 3
F Check tension of rewind spring by pull ing rope out as far as it will goThen turn rotor an additional 18 to 38 of turn more in counter-clockwise direction
This procedure is done to insure that starter spring is not bottoming outIf rotor cannot be turned the additional 18 to 38 of turn, then spring is bottomed outCheck length of ropeProper length is 48 inchesGAfter checking spring tension, instal friction shoe assembly as outlined ir Section IX, paragraph 2-2Refer to fig ure for proper position of frictior shoe assemblyHInstall starter complete as outlined ill Section IX, paragraph 1-2
