Removal CAUTION
Always disconnect battery when working on engine1Disconnect battery leads 2Remove hand starter housing by removing three (3) screws 3Remove starter bracket by removing five (5) screws Figure 54Remove starter
2Connect another jumper cable to the negative terminal of the battery 3Touch negative jumper cable to the frame of he starter motor and remove it4Pinion should move freely up and down th clutch when the negative jumper cable is on and off the starter frame 5If the pinion does not move freelydisassemble the starter motor drive and inspect it for irt or damage
Testing Starter Armature RotationRotate starte armature by hand If armature does not rotate reelybent armature or badly worn bearing may be causing it to bindDisassemble starter and inspect it for wear or damageDisassembly
